Bob CollinsBill Conlin was one of the finest baseball writers of his generation. He was enshrined in Cooperstown when he was awarded the J.G. Taylor Spink Award.
During his career, he was a panelist on an ESPN sports show. Writing for the Philadelphia Daily News when newspapers were king of media, he had it all going for him, until he resigned in 2011, just before his own newspaper ran an investigation that showed he was a child molester.
None of his accomplishments in life matter, because the last description of him on this planet is that he molested children.
Craig Calcaterra of Hardball Times wrote a fitting obituary for him today.
“If the allegations against Conlin were true — and to date there has been nothing to contradict them — he was nothing short of a monster,” he said.
