But it really happened, the airline confirmed today.
Flight 2598 was near Salt Lake City at 37,000 feet a week ago Friday, Aviation Herald said, when the pilot landed the plane because of an unruly flight crew.
The flight involved “two flight attendants disagreeing over work issues engaged in a fist fight, a third lady trying to calm the other two down was hit by the flying fists, the purser informed the flight deck and the captain decided to divert,” the Aviation Herald said.

Delta today confirmed the fight occurred in an email to the Washington Post.
“Delta apologizes to those customers who were inconvenienced after flight 2598 from Los Angeles to Minneapolis-St. Paul made an unscheduled stop in Salt Lake City following an altercation involving two flight attendants on board,” the statement said. “The actions of these crew members in no way reflect the values and professionalism we expect from all of our employees.”
The statement added that the company provided a letter to customers who were on the flight, to “apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused.”
“In addition,” the airline said, “SkyMiles members received miles, while customers who are not currently SkyMiles members received a travel voucher.”
FlightAware.com’s depiction of the flight shows it was on the ground for 80 minutes in Salt Lake City before resuming its far-less-interesting leg to Minneapolis.
