Gee, Wisconsin, what have you got against veterans?
There is only one state in the Union that doesn’t recognize Veterans Day as an official state holiday. It’s you, Wisconsin.
Maybe that’ll change.
The Senate is to vote today on a bill recognizing the holiday.
Currently, state employees don’t get Veterans Day off. They get a floating holiday which they can use any time.
“This shows veterans that we value them so much that, in the fast-paced world we live in, we’re going to stop government to honor them,” Senate President Richard Roth, R-Appleton, said last month. “Taking one day to stop all work and honor them is extremely important.”
No one lobbied against the bill, the Associated Press reports.
Similar legislation could have been passed at any point since Armistice Day was renamed in 1954.
