The president’s club

If you’re one of the people who occasionally considers the aging of presidents, this is your kind of day. The five living presidents got together today for the dedication of the George W. Bush presidential library in Texas.

I’m reasonably certain this is the first time the five living presidents have been together since January 7, 2009, the eve of President Obama’s first inauguration.

And, technically, there are only four presidents in the 2009 picture. And it’s worth noting that in the 2013 picture, the presidents are lined up according to their service. One other difference: This time, only presidents Obama and Bush are wearing lapel pins.

It’s highly likely that today’s photo opportunity is the last time the five will be all in the same place.

Anticipating your question, here’s the answer. Six. Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, who were alive between 1992 and 1994.
