What standing up to power looks like

What’s our ally — Turkey — doing today? Oh nothing, just using water cannons on journalists who are trying to cover the protests against the government there.

Here’s another angle.

Fifty-nine journalists have been forced to resign or have been fired for daring to cover criticism of the Turkish government.

And yet, they keep risking their lives and livelihoods so that you know what’s happening there.

Turkish riot police on February 13 fired tear gas and water cannon at around 2,000 protesters demanding the release of army officers jailed for plotting a coup. At least 12 protesters were arrested and two people, including a police officer, were injured in clashes. AFP PHOTO / ADEM ALTAN (Photo:ADEM ALTAN/AFP/Getty Images)
