Bob CollinsThe staff over in the Department of Stories That Make No Sense has sent this one through the pneumatic tubes today: A woman in Pontiac, Michigan has been found dead. She was found in her car in the attached garage at her home. She’d been there for six years.
The heat was still on at the home, which is going through foreclosure, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Neighbors told police the woman generally kept to herself and traveled frequently as an auto employee, often for weeks at a time, so no one thought anything of her absence. Some said it was probably six years since they last saw the woman, while others just assumed she had moved.
During that time, a neighbor mowed the lawn, the mail wasn’t delivered, the utilities were paid through an automatic deduction from her bank account.
“All these things kind of led to the perfect storm of no one saying, ‘What’s going on there?’ ” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
She is said to have voted in 2010, but the election boss figures that’s a clerical mistake. Still, that’s what people think the real story is in this story.
The takeaway: Get to know your neighbors so someone will notice when you die.
