The world needs more Nicholas Wintons

After being a secret for decades, Sir Nicholas Winton’s achievement has been out for a few years. He went to Prague in 1938 for a little vacation and ended up saving children from the Holocaust.

Though we know the story, last evening’s “60 Minutes” profile of the man was jaw-dropper anyway under the category “humility.”

“I’m not interested in the past,” he said. “I think there’s too much emphasis nowadays on the past and what has happened. And nobody is concentrated on the present and the future.”

He’s right. It’s easier to say “never again,” than it is to actually do something to stop ethnic and religious carnage. Rwanda taught us that. So does South Sudan where 200 people were killed in a mosque last week, where they’d sought shelter from rebels in a war of atrocities.
