Do that thing you do, Internet!
The online world has been really good at finding the people captured in torn or faded pictures found or possessed by strangers ( As has been proven time and time again). Here’s another opportunity.
Every year at this time, Elizabeth Stringer Keefe, a professor at a college in Boston, turns online to find the people in this photo and/or the person who owned the picture. A friend found it around the World Trade Center 13 years ago and, when the finder was moving, gave it to Keefe and told her to do something meaningful with it.
Last night she turned to Twitter:
Every year on #911 I post this photo hoping 2 return 2 owner. Found at #groundzero #WTC in 2001. Pls RT pic.twitter.com/mZ9LdQqE7x

“It’s a beautiful, joyful moment captured in time and it was such a contrast to what I saw at Ground Zero, which was still burning when I was there,” Keefe tells Mashable. “So, if it had a relationship to 9/11, I wanted to keep it safe until I could return it to its owner. There’s so much beauty and happiness in the photo that I just felt committed to the task.”
It’s been retweeted almost 30,000 times just since last night. But so far, nobody has stepped forward.
Update Sat. 9/13— The owners have been found. Apparently everyone is still alive.
