For a week, the Rochester Post Bulletin reports, Jadalynn Haugen debated whether to spent her $20 of birthday money on candy, or donate it to the Plainview Fire Department to help buy equipment that can resuscitate pets caught in a fire.
“I can get candy any time, but nothing would replace her,” she said when she considered her cat.
After she donated the money, she called friends and by the end of the day on Monday, she’d raised enough money for the fire department to buy two resuscitation kids, the newspaper reports.
The Plainview assistant fire chief says he can’t think of a time in the last 30 years when his department would have used the kits, but perhaps that’s not really the point.
