Return to your youth. The Star Wars trailer is out

Remember a month or so ago when we sports fans had tears in our eyes as Kevin Garnett returned to the hardwood of Target Center?

If you see your colleagues dabbing the eyes this afternoon, it’s the same thing — our youth is back. And it’s joyous.

Time.com even breaks down the five important scenes from the trailer.

That voiceover is Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, apparently telling his offspring about The Force. It’s unclear which character he’s talking to, but it’s a safe bet this film is about the heroes of the original trilogy (Luke, Leia and Han) passing the torch to a new triumvirate (Finn, Rey and Poe) There’s even an analogy-completing shot of one character handing a lightsaber to another (and it looks just like Luke’s first lightsaber, built by Anakin Skywalker before he fell to the Dark Side).

The first trailer was released the day after Thanksgiving.

This one is more significant, Scott Mendelson at Forbes writes.

The would-be money shot, dropped in the initial act of said teaser, is what looks to be Darth Vader’s charred helmet. I guess they are saving something for the third trailer that will likely drop around… okay, looking at the schedule it’s honestly a crap shoot. When the next trailer will drop is a wild guess at this point, unless they go with a third trailer for Ant Man in mid July and then another one attached to, uh, Steven Spielberg’s Bridge of Spies in October? Truth be told, this is as much of a “spoil nothing” teaser as last year’s announcement, which is pretty encouraging.

Today’s release coincides with the “Star Wars Celebration” in Anaheim, California.

“Who’s going to cry if you see something amazing today?” a DJ asked the crowd at the start of the presentation. The arena erupted in cheers – and a few tears, the New York Times says.
