Waiting for the butterflies. And waiting…

The official bee and butterfly garden of NewsCut is doing well this year, with the exception of the fact there are no bees or butterflies this year.

Our enthusiasm at the increase in Monarchs last year was short lived; we haven’t seen one this year. Yet.

The more we do to help the situation — the milkweed have no Monarch larvae as near as I can tell — the more disappointing the results.

How are things in your garden?

There’s some good news on this front, however.

The annual butterfly count in the Superior National Forest turned up a “bonanza,” according to the Duluth News Tribune.

This year’s count listed 26 species. That’s the same as last year and also included two species never never seen before in the former logging village of McNair, said to be the butterfly capital of the forest.
