Bob CollinsIt was “tear your heart out night” at Target Field last night, and that was before the Twins and Indians played.
As is custom now, several people were honored by throwing out the “first pitch”, a practice that is losing its impact because there are so many first pitches now.
But not last night.
First there was the widower whose wife died in child birth a year and a half ago. An entire section in the upper deck in left was filled with her friends in the near-empty stadium.
Then it was Sean Floersch’s turn. The 14-year-old had a rare form of bone cancer. He’s had 17 rounds of chemo.
Last week he found out he’s now cancer free.
By the time the game started, it didn’t much matter to any reasonable person whether the Twins won or lost. Because it’s just a game.
