I suppose it’s no secret that if you want to appeal to the “average” person in America — or so the elitist political experts suggest — you must try to be a little less competent at the use of the English language.
I’ve always found that an odd piece of advice that says more about how many politicians view Americans than Americans themselves.
But, be that as it may, dumbing down the language is what they do.
Still, no less than the New Yorker — as is its wont — struck a social media blow for the language by “editing” Donald Trump’s response to Pope Francis yesterday.
