This is typically the awkward time in American politics when a president-elect has to attempt to pull the nation together.
Part of the way that’s done is to assure the people who didn’t vote for a candidate that the person who won isn’t really what the candidate presented during a campaign. That’s the way these things go, they say. You have to do things to get elected; things you can’t do once you are.
Supporters of the president-elect are fanning out on the “calm down” tour today and Tom Barrack’s appearance on CBS This Morning was particularly interesting.
He provided some of the early money to the Trump campaign and he served in President Ronald Reagan’s administration as deputy under secretary of the Department of the Interior.
Barrack’s mission is a minefield. How to calm the nervous nation while not turning off the people who wanted Trump to take a blowtorch to the government.
“His detractors are going to be shocked by how good he’ll be,” Barrack said. Maybe. How will that go over with the people who wanted President Trump the candidate and not President Trump the president?
Barrack isn’t likely to get the treasury job that a CBS host asked him about.
Jamie Dimon, the boss of JP Morgan Chase might, CNBC reports.
