The Coloradan reports that Tim Farnum is leading a charge to put a measure on the state’s ballot to limit smartphone sales to people under 13.
He heads a group, Parents Against Underage Smartphones, that’s promoting the bill requiring retailers to report to the state that they asked anyone buying a smartphone who would be using . Retailers who sell phones to children would be fined.
Farnum, an anethesiologist, said he was convinced the measure is necessary because of what happened to his own kids.
“They would get the phone and lock themselves in their room and change who they were,” he said.
It’ll need 300,000 signatures to get on the ballot. If approved, it would be the first law of its kind in the country. It likely would have little chance of passage.
