You know it’s bad when the National Weather Service has to add a whole new color or two to its map depicting how much rain has fallen in southeastern Texas.
#Harvey in perspective. So much rain has fallen, we've had to update the color charts on our graphics in order to effectively map it. pic.twitter.com/Su7x2K1uuz

The storm has dumped more than 20 inches of rain in portions of southeast Texas since Thursday night. By the time it’s all said and done, some parts of Houston and its suburbs could get as much as 50 inches of rain. That would be the highest amount ever recorded in Texas.
Here’s some more perspective, this time with a local angle:
Houston broke their all-time daily precipitation record yesterday, with 16.07". This 1-day total equals our normal rain for May thru August. https://t.co/Ug8cvC8hMm
