Chisago Co. wants you to have fun in jail, but it will cost you

The Chisago County Sheriff’s Office is calling for residents to pay $40 for a night in jail. That price includes two meals, plus a $20 donation to a “local charity.”

The department, which is known to have a sometimes jolly time on Twitter, hopes to engage its community by tossing volunteers in jail for the night.

In a Facebook post, the sheriff notes that this a fresh prison where no inmates have slept.

**UPDATE**Ok, we will clear up some misunderstandings here:-This is a brand new jail/law enforcement center. No…

Part of the thinking is that having citizens stay a night before opening it up to the sentenced population gets there will help work out any “kinks” in the facility.

“Do certain cameras need to be repositioned? Are there blind spots? Are individuals in a cell able to communicate effectively with the corrections staff? Is all kitchen equipment properly working/ able to properly prepare multiple large meals?” the sheriff’s office asks.

Bonus(?): Participants will get a complimentary mugshot to take home.
