dgaraetsRemember this name: Dale Schultz, a Republican state senator in Wisconsin. Schultz has parted ways with Gov. Scott Walker, calling his effort to suffocate the public employee unions a “classic overreach.” He figures into a long-shot Democratic strategy to regain control of the state Senate through recall efforts against vulnerable Republicans. The Democrats would need to pick up three seats, but if they could get just two, they figure they might be able to do business with Schultz.
As I said, it’s a long shot. But one element that’s been strikingly missing in the Wisconsin crisis is any credible plan to make it stop. Republicans could mount the same tactic against Democrats, by the way – and the Democrats would have one big disadvantage. They wouldn’t be able to return to Wisconsin and campaign.
