ND students told: Don’t dress like Julia Roberts

In Devils Lake, North Dakota, school administrators figured a 24-year-old movie would resonate with the kids when it comes to how to dress properly.

WDAZ reports a school assembly showed part of “Pretty Woman” to reinforce the Devils Lake High School dress code.

Some parents apparently felt the move compared girls wearing revealing leggings, yoga pants, and skinny jeans to prostitutes, since the Julia Roberts character was a hooker.

School administrators say the point of the clip was to show students how clothing can affect perceptions.

“I get how that lady was judged by what she was wearing, but we don’t wear that kind of stuff to school,” said Edna Matheny, a sophomore, who said the teachers subsequently made the connection.
