That humanity immortalized him. He’s the guy who covered the Hindenburg disaster in New Jersey.
A few years ago, former MPR News colleague Bob Ingrassia discovered this little nugget which explains how a voice like Morrison’s found itself on a radio broadcast at a time when radio people needed “radio voices.”
It’s because the voice people heard — the voice for which he’s most famous — wasn’t really Morrison’s.
Nobody heard Morrison’s real voice that day. Because, contrary to widespread belief, the event wasn’t broadcast live.
There were some bulletins issued on NBC at the time. But none of them was from Morrison.
