New color video shows Berlin at end of WWII

The battle of Berlin ended 70 years ago Saturday with the unconditional surrender of the Nazi garrison in the Reichstag to the Red Army.

Today, Chronos Media, the largest independent film archive in Germany, released this video of life in the city just two months later.

“This film contains color footage of Berlin and Potsdam shot shortly after the end of the war: aerial views of the completely destroyed capital, bombed and collapsed houses, only the facades are left, rubble women who carry away the debris and start to rebuild even before the return of their husbands from war, etc.,” the release said.
