Boy’s wish: Run a food truck to serve those who serve

When Lucas Hobbs, 12, of Eagan was at Children’s Hospital being treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he had trouble eating. He was in the hospital for 40 days.

“When I was sick, people brought me food from our church, and it was really nice of them,” Lucas tells WCCO. “It kinda got me thinking about my Make a Wish, so I asked my parents if I could use my wish to help others.”

He and his father came up with the idea of a food truck after they saw a movie about a boy and his father who owned a food truck.

So now he’s on the Chef Lucas Food Truck.

Yesterday, he served Minneapolis police.

“The fact that there is somebody, anybody, much less a 12-year-old, that is so willing to give outward,” John Elder, Minneapolis police spokesman, tells the Star Tribune. “I was honored on behalf of the department to help facilitate it.”

Lucas says he’s going to name some menu items on the truck after treatments he had to endure in the hospital.
