Video: Amid Brussels attack, a traveler kept filming

The video inside the airport in Brussels, seconds after an apparent suicide bomber blew him/herself up today adds compelling context to the story.

The person with the camera, believed to be Ralph Usbeck, 55, an electronics technician, is sprawled on the floor of the airport. For several minutes, he filmed while people next to him shielded others. Just in case.

“I assumed it was training, but some litter was in the air, so I was not sure if it was a terrorist act,” he told the AP.

“Seconds later, a much more heavy, heavy detonation happened, some more distance (away) but much more heavy. This was the moment I realized this was a terrorist act.”

It’s compelling video that leads us — again — to ask: Is there ever a time to put the camera down?
