I have unfortunately just confirmed first hand with one of his oldest friends that Prince is dead.

I can’t say I was ever a huge Prince fan. I was never music literate enough, I didn’t experience his evolution/revolution the way people in Minnesota did, and I’m not of the right generation, even though somewhere in the boxes of old vinyl albums, there’s a Purple Rain album I listened to once or twice.

But when I watched the Super Bowl halftime show in 2007, I “got it.” For one fleeting moment, I got it.
Nobody ever looked so cool in the rain. And I kept waiting for him to be electrocuted.
It was a crying shame that a football game had to interrupt things.

What Bowie was for white kids who didn't fit in, Prince was for black kids. A beacon in mascara who made it okay to stand up and stand out.

Just exhausted by this. Tired of being bushwacked by genius gone before its time.

Prince can't be dead. I bet they search his mansion and find spaceship blueprints & a note saying "Peace, off 2 explore other galaxies."

"Paint a perfect picture. Bring to life a vision in one's mind. The beautiful ones. Always smash the picture. Always every time." #Prince xo
