When report cards are still a big deal

Why do some kids excel in school and others don’t?

A big reason — by no means the only one, of course — is contained in the Pioneer Press’ story about the St. Paul Public Schools sending home report cards with the wrong grades.

On Monday the district alerted parents that the report cards were wrong.

But it’s this part of the story that is the most illustrative.

Quendy Raymond scolded her son Malachi, a sophomore at Open World Learning, when his report card showed a B instead of the A-minus he’d earned in chemistry. She’s upset the district made the mistake and didn’t tell parents sooner.

“Grades are a big deal in our house,” she said.

The district says the grades listed for parents online are correct. Check here before scolding your kid.
