Plymouth neighbors remember Harvey with his chairs

The world is such now that when some people die, the neighbors barely notice. Central air conditioning and backyard decks have insulated us from one another.

That’s what makes what’s happened in Plymouth all the more poignant.

The neighbors honored someone they knew well: Harvey Djerf, who walked the neighborhood. His loved ones, his neighbors, put chairs out for Harvey to sit on and rest during his strolls.

He died earlier this month at 96, on what would have been his wife’s 93rd birthday, his obituary noted.

It’s a lovely obituary. But what’s on the side of the road in Plymouth now is lovelier still.
