More discipline in high school dance-team protest

More high school dance team coaches have been disciplined for their part in a demonstration against the Faribault girls who won the state high school tournament in February with a routine the coaches said was cribbed from a Colorado school.

The Minnesota State High School League had approved the routine, but the coaches — most of whom refused to talk to the media — sent their girls out to protest Faribault at an awards ceremony, snubbing their competitors.

Apple Valley and Chaska school officials have reprimanded their head dance coaches and suspended them for two contests, Faribault Daily News reports. Coaches in Eden Prairie have resigned. The coaches of Wayzata and Lakeville South were reprimanded previously.

Eastview coach Jenny Raiche received a letter of deficiency and will be suspended for the first two meets of next season, said Tony Taschner, the Star Tribune says.

The MSHSL could still further discipline the schools when it meets in June, although that seems unlikely given the actions of the schools’ administrators.
