The Austin boys basketball team was down a bucket with seconds left to go last night and Oman Oman had Northfield High School’s squad right where he wanted them.
With 1.6 seconds left, he collected a missed free throw and hurled it as time ran out.
It went in. Of course it went in. You can’t stop Oman Oman; you can only hope to contain him.
“I’ve coached a long time and I’ve never had that happened to me,” Northfield Raiders head coach Andy Berkvam told Northfield News. “What are you going to do? He threw it 80 feet. It’s a one in a million shot.”

“Honestly it’s no different than Aaron Rodgers’ Hail Mary touchdown pass [against Detroit],” Austin head coach Kris Fadness tells the Austin Daily Herald. “We sort of struggled all night as a team, and we were hanging around. We had a hard time scoring. I give our kids credit for battling and preserving to give us a chance. Luckily a prayer was answered.”
“It kind of surprised me,” young Oman said, showing a mastery of the understatement.
