Next time, don’t turn to Google to find the words to the National Anthem of Germany, sir.
Before the Fed Cup tennis match in Hawaii yesterday, a singer sang the wrong verse for the German National Anthem, going with the one most associated with Hitler and Nazi Germany.
Will Kimbal, a hospital worker said to be a former opera singer, is now a former national anthem singer.
The players and crowd defiantly sung the correct words — the third verse is the official anthem — instead of “Deutschland, Deutschland uber alles, uber alles in der Welt,” which translates to “Germany above all, above all in the world.”
Oops.
The USTA extends a sincere apology to the German Fed Cup team & fans 4 the outdated National Anthem. This mistake will not occur again. pic.twitter.com/4LyG3ACe5u

“I thought it was the epitome of ignorance, and I’ve never felt more disrespected in my whole life, let alone in Fed Cup,” Germany’s Andrea Petkovic told Reuters.
