They’ll be steaming in North Dakota today, a state that bristles almost as much as Minnesota when the outsiders take potshots at it. When you criticize big oil in North Dakota, you’re criticizing North Dakota. These days, they’re one in the same.

Count the insults John Oliver delivered on his HBO show last night.

He called the state “a magical utopia like Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, which come to think of it had about the same safety record as North Dakota’s oil fields.”

Oliver bought a billboard urging residents in North Dakota to “be angry.”
