Battle over craft beer brewing between Duluth and St. Paul

Not since Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin put those “open for business” signs at the border have we seen a battle of passive aggressiveness as entertaining as the one that’s developing between St. Paul and Duluth.

At issue is a billboard in Duluth declaring St. Paul the craft beer capital of Minnesota, a distinction that Duluth has owned, according to the Duluth News Tribune, which might be playing favorites.

Duluth Mayor Don Ness suggested that St. Paul is just trying to be Duluth, and says while St. Paul might produce its share of beer, Duluth has the “ethic” that the capital city lacks.

Ouch.

“What’s next? Are they going to claim that Lake Como is Minnesota’s greatest lake?” Ness asked.

That is a pretty sweet lake, Mr. Mayor.
